AQI tops 400-mark, Delhi sees 1st ‘severe’ air day of the season

Delhi has experienced its first day of "severe" air pollution this season.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) has gone above 400, which is the level at which air is considered severely unhealthy. This is due to a combination of factors, including calm winds that are failing to disperse the pollutants and an increase in pollution from farm fires in nearby states.

As a result, officials are considering reinstating rules from the "Graded Response Action Plan" (GRAP), which could mean a ban on certain types of construction work and some lorries entering the city.
