Air Pollution in Cities: Challenges and the Way Forward
As air quality has become a growing public concern, the need to move beyond short-term measures towards sustained and coordinated action has been emphasised. In this context, a roundtable titled “Air Pollution in Cities: Challenges and the Way Forward” was hosted in New Delhi.
During the discussion, the focus was placed on building accountable and coordinated city systems to address air pollution. The ways in which future air-quality frameworks could be designed to strengthen city capacity, rather than only provide funding, were examined. The roundtable marked a step towards viewing clean air as a city-systems challenge and initiating dialogue on long-term institutional solutions.
Key perspectives from experts, researchers and civil society organisations were shared to support this shift towards durable and effective urban air-quality governance.
Combating Industrial Emissions: Forging a Cleaner Industrial Future with NCAP 2.0
The continued neglect of industrial pollution mitigation under the NCAP framework has been identified as a major gap that poses a direct risk to India’s air-quality targets. In response to this concern, a two-day National Consultation titled “Combating Industrial Emissions: Forging a Cleaner Industrial Future with NCAP 2.0” was convened by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE).
India’s Energy Landscape and Energy Transition towards Security and Sustainability through the Synergistic Approaches
The Energy Conclave 2025, titled “India’s Energy Landscape and Energy Transition towards Security and Sustainability through the Synergistic Approaches”, was held on 20–21 September 2025. As part of the conclave, a panel discussion on “Just Energy Transition: Aligning Development with Climate-Compatible Futures” was organised by the Department of Economics, Banaras Hindu University.
The conclave was jointly organised by the Department of Economics, Banaras Hindu University, the Climate Compatible Growth Network (CCG-UK), and the Department of Environment Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh, highlighting strong academic collaboration.
During the panel discussion, perspectives on India’s energy transition were shared. A session on “Sustainable Futures through India’s Energy Transition” was delivered by Sunil Dahiya with a focus on energy security, sustainability and climate-aligned development.
