Delhi chokes through December: Worst pollution levels since 2018

Delhi has recorded its highest average PM2.5 levels in December since December 2018, making this month’s air quality the worst in several years. The fine particulate pollution has soared despite fewer farm fires, showing that local emissions and winter weather are major reasons for the toxic air. This dangerous pollution poses health risks, with levels far above safe limits and frequent days in the “very poor” or “severe” categories. Experts say that more effective measures are needed to tackle all sources of pollution in the city and surrounding region.
