Delhi identifies 57 pollution sources at 13 hot spots

A recent mapping by Delhi’s environment department has identified 57 active sources of air pollution across 13 high-pollution “hot spots” in the city — with the worst-affected areas being Mundka and Anand Vihar, each accounting for seven sources. Many of the newly flagged sources include road dust from heavy traffic, construction sites like the Urban Extension Road-2 and a new transport station, industrial activity and degraded road conditions. To address these, authorities have deployed dust-control measures such as water-splashing sprinklers, mechanised road-sweepers and mobile anti-smog guns at these hotspots — but despite some improvements, pollution levels there remain higher than the city average. The identification of these sources is meant to direct focused action; yet experts say substantial reductions in pollution will need systemic efforts beyond temporary fixes.
