Delhi needs ₹4,500 cr more to meet targets under National Clean Air Programme

The Delhi government has reported to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that it requires an additional ₹4,500 crore to meet its clean air targets under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). The funds are needed to implement critical measures, such as fully electrifying the public transport fleet and expanding the network of electric vehicle charging stations. The city's current budget for pollution control is deemed insufficient to achieve the mandated 40% reduction in particulate matter concentrations by 2026. The report underscores the significant financial gap between planned anti-pollution initiatives and the available resources, highlighting a major hurdle in Delhi's fight against its persistent air quality crisis.
