Delhi records 2nd highest no. of ‘satisfactory’ air days, as of mid-August
New data shows that Delhi has experienced its second-highest number of 'satisfactory' air quality days for this period (January to mid-August) since 2015. The year 2020 currently holds the record, but that is considered unusual due to widespread lockdowns.
Officials say the improvement in 2024 is due to favourable weather conditions and the consistent work of the city's anti-pollution task force. The number of 'poor' to 'severe' air quality days has also been lower than average this year.
However, experts are warning that the critical winter season—when pollution typically gets much worse—is still to come. They caution that it is too early to call this a long-term trend, as cold weather and other factors often lead to a significant decline in air quality from October onwards.
