Experts fear spike in Delhi's pollution even as SC allows green crackers
The Supreme Court of India has allowed the limited sale and bursting of certified “green” firecrackers in Delhi–National Capital Region (NCR) around Diwali, after previously banning all crackers. These green firecrackers are permitted only for a short time each day, at set hours and only between certain dates, and online sales are banned. However, experts have warned that enforcement is weak, regulatory bodies are understaffed and there are gaps in controlling fake or uncertified products. Because of this, they fear that air pollution could still spike during the festival, despite the stricter rules on green crackers.
