In Patna, around 64 per cent of people work within five kilometres of their home, and more than 88 per cent work within ten kilometres. Despite this short distance, many still use their own private vehicles to travel to work. Researchers say this is surprising and points to problems with the city’s transport system. Because so many people rely on private cars and bikes, public transport remains poor, roads get congested, and walking is difficult, especially for poorer residents.
