India's capital rain-free after cloud seeding. Experts call it a failure
In the Indian capital New Delhi, an aircraft-based cloud-seeding experiment was carried out in the hope of producing rainfall and thereby reducing the heavy smog. Despite a budget of around 32 million rupees (about 1.3 million PLN), no rainfall occurred as a result of the operation. Experts say the failure was due to unfavourable weather conditions (such as low vertical cloud development and insufficient humidity) and the inherent limitations of the technology.
They emphasise that lasting improvement in air quality must come from reducing emissions at source (such as transport, energy and construction), rather than relying on artificial rain.
