Poison air cocktail: Ozone gives way to PM2.5, PM10 post Diwali in Delhi

Following Diwali, Delhi's air pollution transformed from an "ozone-dominated cocktail" to one heavily laden with harmful particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10). This shift occurred as calm winds and low temperatures trapped firecracker emissions and other pollutants close to the ground.

The city's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) deteriorated to the 'Very Poor' category. Monitoring stations, particularly in areas with significant firecracker burning, recorded AQI levels soaring into the 'Severe' zone, indicating a sharp decline in air quality post-celebrations.
