Proactive Action or Premature Relief? GRAP Stage 3 Lifted as Delhi’s Toxic Air Persists
he Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has revoked Stage 3 of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for the Delhi‑NCR region, even though air remained “very poor”.
As a result, many restrictions — including 50% work‑from‑home for offices, hybrid classes in schools, and bans on certain vehicles, construction and demolition — have been lifted.
However, the CAQM has stated that measures under GRAP Stage 1 and Stage 2 will continue and will even be intensified, in order to keep air pollution in check. Although air quality has reportedly improved slightly to an AQI of 327 when the decision was taken, forecasts suggest it may remain “very poor” — raising concern about the timing of the relaxation.
