Studies raise concern over Patna’s weak transport system

Two recent studies have highlighted serious problems with Patna’s transport system. The reports show that most people rely on two-wheelers, which now make up over 62 % of new vehicles on the city’s roads. Traffic congestion is severe, with vehicles moving very slowly during rush hours. Air pollution from traffic is also a concern. The studies found that public transport is not strong enough for the city’s needs — Patna would need over 1,250 buses but only a small number were registered in the last year. Many residents must depend on limited public services or non-motorised travel. Experts say more buses, better traffic planning and stronger policies are urgently needed to improve travel and reduce pollution in Patna.
