The problem of finding source of pollution in Delhi persists
The article explains that efforts over the past few years to identify exactly where Delhi’s pollution comes from have repeatedly failed — studies meant to provide real-time data on pollution sources have been halted or become obsolete. As a result, when the city’s air quality suddenly worsens (e.g. AQI hitting 494), officials cannot confidently pin down the responsible sources. The only remaining system — Decision Support System (DSS) — estimates pollution contributions, but it relies on outdated emission data and lacks an accessible archive, so its results are seen as unreliable or incomplete. Without accurate source-tracking, forming effective, targeted pollution controls becomes very difficult — leaving much of the problem unsolved.
