Throwing caution to the wind on Diwali in Delhi

On Diwali night in Delhi, many people ignored the official ban on firecrackers and burst them anyway. This filled the air with very thick, toxic smoke, which caused air pollution to shoot up to hazardous levels, especially in residential neighbourhoods. The smog made breathing unsafe and worsened air quality across much of the city.
