Two cloud seeding trials to be conducted this month in Delhi: Sirsa

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, in collaboration with the Delhi government, is preparing to conduct two cloud seeding trials this month. The experiments are planned for Delhi and Sirsa in Haryana as a scientific intervention to combat air pollution. The aim is to induce artificial rain through a process of injecting salts (like silver iodide) into suitable clouds to trigger precipitation, which would then help wash away airborne pollutants.

The article notes that the trials are pending final approvals from central government agencies, including the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This initiative represents a proactive, technology-driven effort to seek temporary relief from the severe smog that plagues the region, particularly as winter approaches.
