Uneven Distribution Of Monitoring Stations Undermines Pollution Fight

Delhi has 39 continuous air quality monitoring stations, but their placement is uneven. Most stations are concentrated in South and Central Delhi, while areas such as the north-west and the outskirts have very limited monitoring. Some cities in the National Capital Region do not have even one station.

The Centre for Science and Environment found that only about a quarter of the city is well monitored, while nearly half falls within partial coverage zones and around one-fifth remains in data shadow areas. Experts say this imbalance makes it hard to measure actual pollution levels and weakens policy-making. They are urging better distribution of stations to ensure reliable and scientific air-quality management throughout the region.
