Volcanic ash plume from Ethiopia may disrupt flights in India today
The plume, which is expected to reach parts of northwest India by Monday night, is likely to sweep across Rajasthan, Delhi-NCR, and Punjab. The ash, comprising silica, rocky material, and gases like sulphur dioxide, may impact both flight operations and air quality in the region. The DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) has advised airlines to suspend or delay operations in impacted airports if conditions deteriorate, and some airlines have already begun cancelling or diverting flights. The ash is currently moving at heights of 10–15 kilometres above the surface, primarily impacting high-altitude flights.
