Why Mumbai looks hazy even when air quality is ‘moderate’

Mumbai has looked hazy and visibility has been poor even though official air quality readings mostly fall in the “satisfactory” to “moderate” categories. This happens because the haze is caused by very fine particles and weather conditions, not just high pollution numbers. In winter, slower winds and cooler temperatures trap pollutants near the ground, so smoke, dust and chemical particles hang in the air and make the sky look misty. Urban factors like tall buildings also stop air from moving freely, keeping this haze over the city. Doctors say these fine particles can still be harmful to health, especially for children and people with breathing problems.
