Climate Change: Delhi burns as ground temperatures rise by 6 degrees in 10 years

Over the past 10 years, parts of Delhi have become much hotter, with ground temperatures rising by up to 6°C in some areas. This rise is not the same everywhere—some neighbourhoods are far hotter than others, creating “local heat pockets”.

The main reason is rapid construction and loss of green spaces like parks and water bodies. Buildings and roads made of concrete and metal absorb heat and make areas warmer.

Experts warn this could become a serious problem for people’s health and living conditions. They suggest increasing greenery, protecting water bodies, and using heat-resistant materials to reduce the impact.
