Delhi gasps: Worst Diwali air quality since 2022

Delhi’s air quality on Diwali this year was worse than it had been on Diwali in the last two years, with the city’s 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI falling in the ‘very poor’ category, showing more pollution than in 2023 and 2022. The pre-Diwali pollution was also higher than in the previous two years. However, the day after the festival, stronger winds and warmer weather helped disperse some of the pollutants, preventing an even worse situation despite the high levels of smog during the celebrations.
