Gone with the wind: True Diwali picture of Delhi
On Diwali night in Delhi, air pollution spiked sharply even though firecrackers were officially banned. Real-time data showed PM2.5 levels rising to extremely hazardous levels — for example, in Vivek Vihar, the concentration soared from moderate levels in the evening to around 1,853 µg/m³ around midnight, far above both national and WHO safe limits. The surge suggests widespread use of fireworks despite the ban. While some monitoring stations recorded lower readings than last year, most parts of the city experienced severe nighttime pollution due to continued cracker bursting.
