Despite ban, construction goes on unabated in Delhi
According to a report, despite an official ban, construction work in Delhi continued in many areas during a severe air pollution crisis.
The city had implemented Stage-4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which includes a total ban on construction and demolition work. However, a spot check in areas like Sadar Bazaar, Vasant Kunj, and Dwarka found many private and semi-private construction projects operating as normal. Workers were seen without masks, and dust from uncovered materials was adding to the city's polluted air.
Residents complained about a lack of real enforcement, stating that the restrictions seemed to exist "only on paper." The article highlights a gap between official rules and on-the-ground reality, with officials privately citing manpower shortages and poor coordination as reasons for the weak enforcement.
