Farmers in India’s Punjab recycle crop waste, aim to reduce pollution

Farmers in over 800 villages of Punjab are collecting crop stubble using balers and sending it to recycling factories instead of burning it.
The recycled stubble is used to produce biogas, bio-fertiliser and cardboard, supported by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Experts say that although stubble burning has decreased somewhat, more incentives and awareness are needed to scale this practice across the region.
One farmer in Sangrur has even established a cardboard factory from the stubble, which helps reduce pollution and generates jobs.
