Farmers in Punjab recycle crop waste, aim to reduce pollution

Farmers in Punjab are increasingly choosing to recycle their crop stubble by sending it to factories instead of burning it, a move that helps reduce the thick winter smog that often pollutes Delhi. The collected stubble is turned into useful products such as biogas, bio-fertiliser, and cardboard, with support from the Confederation of Indian Industry, which provides machinery and resources. While more than 800 villages have adopted this method, experts say wider awareness and stronger incentives are still needed for a large-scale impact. Some farmers, like Gurnaib Singh, have even started factories using recycled stubble, creating local jobs alongside cutting pollution.
