‘Foul air persistent issue’: CM unveils 6 monitoring stations
In Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has stated that air pollution is now a constant, year-round issue rather than just a seasonal one. To tackle this, the government has announced two main actions:
Six New Monitoring Stations: New air quality monitoring stations have been opened at locations including JNU, IGNOU, and sports complexes in Akshardham and Dwarka.
'Vayu Rakshak' Initiative: A fleet of vehicles has been launched. Officials in these vehicles will monitor and enforce pollution control rules across the city, with plans to deploy 100 vehicles in total.
However, environmental activists and experts have raised a concern. They argue that placing the new monitoring stations mostly in cleaner, greener areas could give a misleadingly positive average for Delhi's air quality on paper, without actually reducing pollution in the most affected neighbourhoods.
