India’s capital part of aggressive electric vehicle targets in bid to curb air pollution

Delhi has launched one of India's most ambitious electric vehicle (EV) policies to reduce air pollution. The new policy aims to make most newly registered vehicles electric by 2027 through subsidies, incentives to scrap old petrol and diesel vehicles, and a major expansion of charging infrastructure.

The policy focuses mainly on two-wheelers, three-wheelers and small commercial vehicles, as they make up most of Delhi's traffic and contribute significantly to vehicle emissions. Experts believe it could greatly improve air quality, but they also say Delhi must build more charging stations, strengthen its power grid, and increase the use of renewable energy to support the growing number of EVs.
