Mumbai breathes easy with 8 ‘good’ air days in June, Thane trails in MMR’s AQI tally
Heavy monsoon clouds brought clean air to Mumbai, making it the cleanest city in the metropolitan region for June.
Here is what the data shows:
Mumbai won the month: Mumbai clocked 8 days of "good" air quality (the cleanest rating). Navi Mumbai was just behind with 7 days, while nearby Thane lagged with only 3 days.
The air was still highly breathable everywhere: Even though Thane didn't get as many perfect days, it spent 24 days in the "satisfactory" category. None of the areas crossed into "moderate" or "poor" territory, meaning everyone in the region could breathe easy.
Different areas have different problems: Experts point out that Mumbai’s main issues are vehicle fumes and industrial emissions. On the other hand, satellite cities like Thane and Navi Mumbai are choked by road dust and heavy building work from massive infrastructure projects.
