Mumbai: City’s ‘moderate’ AQI is a result of pollution monitors not working

Mumbai’s recent reports of “moderate” air quality are misleading because many pollution monitoring stations in the city were not working properly. Between 15 and 23 December, only 17–19 out of 28 air quality monitors were active on most days. This means the official Air Quality Index (AQI) figures were based on incomplete data and may not reflect the true pollution levels across all areas of the city.
