Primary schools empty as smog persists in India’s capital New Delhi

Delhi woke up under heavy smog and hazardous air pollution for the fourth day running — air quality was so bad that all primary schools were shut down and students moved to online classes. The toxic haze is blamed on crop-stubble burning in nearby states, plus emissions from vehicles, factories, waste burning and construction. Cold weather and low wind trapped the pollutants close to the ground, making the smog linger and putting public health at risk.
