Rohtak’s air quality worsened in November despite a nearly 90 per cent reduction in stubble-burning incidents in Haryana. Official data shows that the city’s daily average Air Quality Index rose by 58.6 points during the month, raising fresh concerns over urban pollution sources.
Experts say transport emissions are the biggest contributor to pollution, followed by construction dust and industrial activities. They argue that stubble burning accounts for only a small share of overall pollution and that farmers are being blamed without strong scientific evidence.
Pollution Control Board data also shows that Rohtak recorded several days with poor and very poor air quality levels in November. Environmental experts have called on the government to focus on strict policies targeting vehicle emissions and city-level pollution to address the problem effectively.
