Thick haze of pollutants, shallow fog shroud Delhi, minimum temp below normal

In the national capital, the minimum temperature dropped to around 12.7 °C—about two degrees below normal—with night-time conditions worsening due to calm northwesterly winds and clear skies. A dense haze of pollutants and a layer of shallow fog shrouded the city as 26 of the 39 air-quality monitoring stations recorded an AQI above 300, placing the air in the ‘very poor’ category. The surge in pollution was driven by emission contributions from stubble burning, fire-crackers, vehicle exhaust and local sources, and meteorological conditions meant that smoke remained trapped near the surface.
