Traffic Curbs and Wind Speed: Why Chandni Chowk Ranks Among Delhi’s Least Polluted Areas

A recent analysis by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee found that the historic Chandni Chowk area was among the least polluted locations in Delhi during the 2023-24 winter season. This marks a dramatic improvement for a location once notorious for severe congestion and poor air quality.

The report attributes this positive change primarily to the pedestrianisation project around the Red Fort and Fatehpuri Masjid, which has significantly reduced traffic congestion and, consequently, vehicle emissions in the immediate area.
