Two-Thirds Of Delhi Does Not Have Reliable Air Quality Data
A major investigation has revealed a critical failure in Delhi's air pollution monitoring system. Two-thirds of the national capital does not have access to reliable, real-time air quality data.
The analysis of government monitoring stations found widespread problems:
Faulty or Non-Functional Stations: Many official monitors do not work properly.
Poor Placement: Stations are often incorrectly located, not reflecting true exposure in highly polluted neighbourhoods.
Lack of Coverage: Entire residential and industrial areas with high pollution have no monitors at all.
This data blackout means most of Delhi's residents cannot get accurate information about the dangerously polluted air they breathe in their own localities. Experts conclude that this lack of reliable, hyper-local data is a fundamental obstacle, making it nearly impossible to effectively diagnose the crisis, implement targeted solutions, or track progress in the fight against Delhi's deadly air pollution.
