With Delhi AQI ‘severe’ for 3rd day, GRAP-III measures enforced. How these aim to tackle city’s smog

Delhi’s air quality stayed “severe” for the third day in a row, prompting the authorities to enforce Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage III across the city and surrounding NCR region. Under these measures: all major construction and demolition work was halted (except essential public-projects), older polluting petrol and diesel vehicles (BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel) were banned from entering the city, and stricter controls were imposed on transport and dust-generating activities. The aim was to curb smog and reduce pollution when weather conditions trapped pollutants near the ground.
