A month after the Delhi government launched its new EV policy, demand and footfalls for electric two-wheelers have surged—sales nearly doubled to 6,712 units in July compared to the previous year. However, buyer enthusiasm remains tempered by uncertainty over government subsidies, as customers are waiting to see if past disbursal delays will recur. Dealerships note that while long-term policy mandates (such as requiring all new two-wheelers to be electric by April 2028) are driving strong interest, actual purchase decisions hinge on the smooth processing of these payouts, which can take 60 to 90 days after registration.
