Have pollution policies helped Delhi AQI? What the decade’s data shows

The article looks at ten years of air quality data in Delhi to see whether pollution policies have made a lasting difference. It finds that despite many rules and actions — such as banning firecrackers, introducing emergency pollution plans and adopting cleaner fuel standards — there has been no clear long-term improvement in winter air quality. Over the last decade, Delhi’s average winter AQI has stayed in the poor to very poor range, and sometimes it is rising again. Even though farm fires in nearby states have dropped in recent years, this has not led to better air quality in Delhi. Instead, more private vehicles and higher petrol use have kept pollution levels high. In short, the policies have not been strong or effective enough to reduce Delhi’s bad air quality in a sustained way.
