PM10 stays 2.5 times above safe limit, but Faridabad uses only half of budget to cut pollution
Faridabad is still not meeting India’s clean-air standards. Its PM10 pollution — particles that can harm lungs — is over 2.5 times the national safe level, even though the city has reduced it by around a third since 2020-21.
Under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), Faridabad was given funds to fight air pollution, but so far it has only spent about Rs 53 crore out of Rs 107 crore allocated. Much of this money has gone toward controlling dust, managing traffic and building electric-vehicle facilities.
Analysts say unused funds and the lack of clear plans for cutting pollution from all sources — such as industry — have limited progress. They want clearer goals and better use of money so Faridabad can make meaningful improvements in air quality.
