Gurugram records highest vehicle count in 7 years, city braces for worsening traffic and toxic air

The report says that Gurugram has seen its highest number of vehicle registrations in seven years, with nearly 2.3 lakh new vehicles added in just over a year. Most of these are private vehicles, especially two-wheelers and cars, showing strong dependence on personal transport.

This has made traffic much worse across the city, with major roads and junctions regularly facing long jams and slow movement. Even with planned improvements, infrastructure is struggling to keep up with the growing number of vehicles.

The increase in petrol and diesel vehicles is also worsening air pollution. Harmful particles in the air are far above safe levels, and this is affecting people’s health and life expectancy. Cleaner options like electric vehicles are still a very small share and are not growing fast enough.

Overall, the city is facing rising traffic congestion and serious air pollution due to heavy reliance on private, fuel-based transport.
